Tribute to Enid Rose Fourie

The Southern and East Africa Area on the 16th of August 2021 lost one of its God fearing, humble servant. She was a mentor and a leader in the World Federation of Methodist Women. Enid was married to Rev Joe Fourie and lived in South Africa.

In 1961 Rev Joe and his wife Enid attended the World Methodist Conference in Olso Norway. Where Rev Joe was a delegate. After the conference Enid attended the 2nd World Assembly and was the first Women’s Association member to attend a World Assembly. In her Presidency term (1962-1964) in the MCSA conference Enid visited all districts and reported about the Federation in detail hence it becoming alive in Southern Africa.

After her sharing the knowledge of the Federation in 1966 Enid managed to organize eighteen woman to attend the third World Assembly in Wimbledon, England. In 1976 Enid, Bridget van der Marwe and Lorraine Solomon represented the World Federation at an international seminar in Botswana. The seminar was an eye opener to them on how the other Methodist women in other countries were working with United Nations to end Apartheid in South Africa. Upon returning home the three ladies were interrogated by the police about the “subversive” conference in Botswana that they had just attended.
In 1986 the them World President Oknah Kim Lar asked Enid to lead and organize the love feast service of the 7th World Assembly In Nairobi Kenya. She baked bread and brought grape juice as well as a table clothe and wrote the liturgy for the worship service.

In 2001 Enid and Lorraine Solomon were recommended to be delegates by the World Federation UN representative Renate Bloem in World Conference against Racism held in Durban. After this conference Enid and Renate continued to work closely together through Aid for Children In Crisis , a program sponsored by UN Victim’s of Torture.

Enid served as mentor in the local arrangement committee for three years for the 12th World Assembly. She also wrote the liturgy for the worship service to celebrate the count down 365 days to the World Assembly.. She attended many World Federation Assemblies, Area Seminars and Study day programs leading worships, workshops and participating activity demonstrating her leaderships skills as she empowered other women.

She will be missed and her memory will be treasured by her family, the Methodist Church, Women’s Association and the World Federation. She ran her race and kept her faith. May her dear soul rest perfect peace.
