A Call to Pray – April 2020

By March 30, 2020No Comments

Focus on Southern and East Africa

‘Those who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength, they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint.’ Isaiah 40:31

Loving God, in confidence we wait for you to bless us. Strengthen our faith as we go through testing times; allow our spirits to soar so that we see your truth; grant us perseverance in serving you and our neighbour; fill us with your love as we live for you. Lord God, in this time of crisis when many are feeling anxious, isolated and stressed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we pray for an abundance of love, kindness and joy. In the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.

Sipiwe Chisvo, Area President for Southern and East Africa, and Helen Kim Scholar Mbali Mnaba invite us to pray.

We thank God for His love to us as an Area, for our Area Seminar and Weaving Together Program successfully held in Nairobi Kenya.
We thank God for the rains that fell in most parts of our area and that some countries in our area are expecting a good harvest.
We thank God for the peace prevailing within the countries in our area.
We thank God for all Christian women in the world who prayed for Zimbabwe on the 6th of March, the World Day of Prayer 2020.

We pray to the Almighty God to take control of this Coronavirus which is spreading like veld fire. It is with sadness as we hear and watch on television that many countries are badly affected. We keep trusting God.
We pray for rains in Zimbabwe as the country is facing severe water shortages because of drought, and the challenge of food shortages where records say 8 million people are in need of food.
We pray for solutions and improvement in the economies of Zimbabwe and South Africa.

We continue to pray for justice in cases of abuse of women and an end to rape and killing of women. We pray for an end to children being kidnapped in South Africa.
We pray for God to guide the Women’s Fellowship of the Methodist Church Kenya as they fight for an end to female genital mutilation (FGM) and continue to mentor girls and women, training them on the Christian alternative rite of passage.

We pray for God’s provision as we prepare for our 14th World Assembly in 2021 in Sweden.
We pray for new Units who joined us this quinquennium in our Area.

Lord God, as you protected the family of Noah (Genesis 7:16) by shutting them in the ark for their safety, protect us now from the dangers of this world. Guide those who are creating vaccines, medicines and medical equipment so these may soon be available to all who need them. Protect the medical and support staff who care for those who are sick or vulnerable. Protect those who enable others to access food. Protect those who have no access to clean water or sanitizers. To those who mourn, send rainbows of comfort with your gospel of hope in Christ. Amen.
