As we enter the season of Advent, we pray ‘Come, Lord Jesus!’
Come as fires rage in Queensland, Australia, consuming vegetation and homes.
Come as flood waters inundate towns and villages in the UK and wash away belongings and livelihoods.
Come in the protests on the streets of Hong Kong, becoming battle zones and sparking recession.
Come in the region of Gaza where people live in daily fear of attack.
Come among the refugees from every continent as they journey in search of security and hope.
Come to those who are confused and anxious about the political situation in their nation.
Come to those who are homeless, and live on the streets.
Come to those who long for a child and to those who long for a full night’s sleep.
Come to those who are facing domestic violence and see no way out.
Come to those who are facing death, for themselves or a loved-one.
Come Lord Jesus, come!
Come to those who plant trees for the sake of planet earth.
Come to those who work to bring clean water and sanitation to villages and schools.
Come to those who provide education and health care in rural areas.
Come to those who work for justice and peace in the political arena.
Come to those who dare to speak out against violence and abuse.
Come to those who share their wealth with others who are in greatest need.
Come to those who celebrate this holy season with joy and delight.
Come, Lord Jesus, come!
Jesus our Saviour, we praise you for coming into our world as one of us; for living among us, experiencing our longings, our fears and our suffering; for dying for us and rising again to new life, for being with us right now, to comfort and to bless.
Speak through the fire, the flood, the pain and the confusion, so that we know without a shadow of doubt that we are yours and we can have hope because you are God and your love never fails.
Amen
