A Call to Pray – February 2019

By January 31, 2019No Comments

‘Your steadfast love, O Lord, endures for ever. Do not forsake the work of your hands.’ Psalm 138:8b

Eternal God, whose love is never-ending and unconditional, we come to you as people of your creation, to ask for forgiveness where we have gone astray, guidance to keep us in your way, hope to counter our despair, truth and clarity to dispel our confusion, and love overflowing through us to our neighbours. In the name of Christ our saviour, Amen.

This month we remember:

The special meeting of the United Methodist Church General Conference to consider the ‘Way Forward’ following a report from the Council of Bishops concerning human sexuality. We ask God to give patience, openness and clarity of thought to the delegates and leaders of this special session, that they might find hope, unity and direction for their future mission.

We pray for the Federation World Officers and Area Presidents preparing to meet as the World Executive in Hong Kong in March. Pray that everyone is able to procure visas where needed, and that all administration proceeds smoothly.

We also pray for the preparations for the East Asia Area and Latin America Area Seminars. Pray especially for the Area Officers, Mrs Ngui Ting and Mary Devadason, Leila Barbosa and Jessica Solar and Helen Kim Memorial Scholars Kyeo Re Lee and Ruth Amarasuriya, Luiza Pereira and Karen Landa.

We pray for this year’s World Day of Prayer services on 1st March, prepared this year by the women of Slovenia on the theme ‘Come- Everything is Ready!’

We pray for those affected by the recent mud slide in Brazil, political tensions in Venezuela and Zimbabwe, war in Yemen and religious persecution in Pakistan, Nigeria and Sudan. We pray for those affected by Brexit and anxious about future relationships across Europe. We pray for those affected by severe weather conditions in many parts of the world.

We give thanks for the announcement of Ann Connan’s Medal of the Order of Australia award for service to children. Congratulations, President Emerita Ann!

We give God thanks for Dr Sandra Gadson’s appointment as the Area President of North America Area and pray God’s richest blessings upon her as she takes on this responsibility within the World Federation for the rest of this quinquennium.

We give God thanks for every opportunity to be in contact with the women of our Areas.

In the name of Christ we pray.
