‘Whoever serves must do so with the strength that God supplies, so that God may be glorified in all things through Jesus Christ’ 1 Peter 4:11 (NRSV)
Let us give God thanks.
Give thanks to God for the gift of the Holy Spirit, who guides, encourages and comforts us on our faith journey.
Give thanks for the return home of 82 Chibok school girls in Nigeria last month. Pray for them as they re-adjust and for those still in captivity.
Give thanks for the global prayer initiative ‘Thy Kingdom Come’ forming a powerful wave of prayer from Ascension Day to Pentecost, and uniting people of many denominations world-wide.
Let us remember before God:
The United Nations Conference in New York from 5 to 9 June. This coincides with World Oceans Day, to support the implementation of Sustainable Development Goal 14: Conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine resources for sustainable development. The Governments of Fiji and Sweden have the co-hosting responsibilities of the Conference. We pray that the Conference will help reverse the decline in the health of our ocean for people, planet and prosperity.
Pray for the Global Campaign for a Peace treaty on the Korean peninsular. Leaders of the National Council of Churches in Korea (NCCK) will meet on 27th June with ecumenical partners in London to consider the situation facing the people of North and South Korea and their desire for an end to the 1953 Armistice agreement and work towards a Korea Peace Treaty. The NCCK believes the key to resolution is dialogue. It is imploring the US government to enter into dialogue with North Korea regarding the nuclear weapons issue, so that a peaceful resolution may be found.
Let us humbly ask God to bring comfort and peace to a violent world.
Pray for the children and families caught up in the violent attack in Manchester, UK on 22nd May.
Pray for South Africa, where violence and rape and murder of young women and girls is a daily occurrence.
Pray for the peoples of the Middle East, that a peaceful sharing might be their future, empowered by God’s Holy Spirit.
We pray for peace in areas where violence and conflict are prevalent, and we pray for those people in the midst of war, struggling to find food and safety.
Pour out your Holy Spirit on your people so we shall be strong to resist all temptation, courageous in sharing your love, and wise in all our decisions. In the name of Christ and for his sake,
