A Call to Pray – April 2017

By April 1, 2017No Comments

God of the dark days, God of the dawn, in your risen glory you call us by name. Help us to follow you, help us to share our Easter joy.

We give thanks to our faithful God:

  • that every member of the World Executive arrived safely in Chicago for the second world executive meeting of the quinquennium and that much hard work was accomplished;
  • that Brenda Smith and Matilda Johnson shared effectively in the CSW61 in New York;
  • that Rebekah Daniel from Bangalore has been accepted for the YATRA course in Jakarta in July, part of the Bossey Ecumenical Institute programme;
  • that our World Secretary and World President have been able to visit Goteborg, the venue chosen for the World Methodist Council (WMC) meeting and Conference in August 2021. They also met representatives from the Swedish and Norwegian Units and took the opportunity to meet with WMC world leaders.

We thank God for the life of Thelma Johnson, a former World Treasurer of the Federation, who died on 14 March aged 88;
We give thanks for the Easter message that brings the light of resurrection hope into the darkness of our troubling experiences.

We remember

  • those killed, injured and otherwise affected by the violent attack on 22nd March in Westminster, London;
  • those suffering from hunger because of the devastating famine in South Sudan and other countries across East Africa;
  • those affected by the cyclone in Queensland, Australia.
  • those caught up in the continuing conflict in Syria;
  • those dealing with disappointment, discouragement, depression.

We ask God

  • to give wisdom to those who govern in every land, that justice might prevail and peace be realised;
  • to protect and guide all those who serve in relief agencies in dangerous situations;
  • to be with our World Federation Area Officers as they engage with their Unit leaders and prepare for their Area Seminars.

Lord, we cannot be effective disciples until we offer our lives in your service and try to love one another as you commanded us to do. Forgive us when we fail to love, and show us how to be a blessing to one another, even as we are blessed.

Amen.
