President's Prayer

A Call to Pray – February 2017

By February 1, 2017No Comments

‘God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.’ Psalm 46:1
‘Trust in the Lord for ever, for in the Lord God you have an everlasting rock.’ Isaiah 26:4

Let us give thanks to our faithful God:

  • for the courage shown by Bishop Hannah Faal- Heim, as she urged the former President of The Gambia, Yayha Jammeh, to stand aside and acknowledge President Adama Barrow as the new leader of that nation. Together with our Federation World Vice-President , Matilda Johnson, we thank God for the power of prayer as individuals and church groups across the world joined in petitioning God to take charge of the situation – which he has done.
  • We continue to pray for the people of The Gambia and for all countries negotiating political change, not least the United States of America as they enter into a new and very different Presidency. We pray too for wisdom in the changing relationship between the UK and Europe.

Let us remember before God:

  • the individuals caught up in natural disasters over recent weeks – the earthquakes and avalanche in Italy, the after-shocks, floods and storms in New Zealand; the devastating forest fires in Chile, the severe cold in parts of Europe.
  • those affected by the conflict over land rights in and around Jerusalem.
  • those injured or killed in an air attack on a camp in North East Nigeria
  • those who have been trafficked and are treated as slaves in domestic service, in factories, or on farms.
  • the unaccompanied children waiting in refugee camps for permission to join their families or be cared for in safety.

Let us ask our loving God:

  • to guide and protect each one of us in a world that seems increasingly more dangerous;
  • to be with the Executive of the World Federation as they prepare to meet in Chicago in early March and that all Executive members who need them will be granted visas;
  • to give wisdom to the world’s leaders, that they might seek justice, love mercy and walk humbly with God. (Micah 6:8) and that each of us might do the same.

In the name of Christ, Amen.
