A Call to Pray – September 2018

By September 1, 2018No Comments

Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness,
for they will be filled.
Blessed are the merciful,
for they will be shown mercy.
Blessed are the pure in heart,
for they will see God.
Blessed are the peacemakers,
for they will be called children of God.
(Matthew 5:6-9 NIV)

We pray to God to empower us in our quest for truth and justice, to direct us to those in greatest need, to inspire us in our spiritual journey, to equip us in our role as peacemakers. In all our relationships may we behave as children of God, seeing God in one another and glorifying God in all we attempt in Christ’s name. Amen.

This month, please pray for:

The West Africa Area Seminar in Accra, Ghana 10-14th September preceded by the Weaving Together Program for Area and Unit leaders. Pray that all those who have registered may travel safely to the venue and that all program arrangements run smoothly.

The European Methodist Council meeting in Copenhagen 7-11th remembering particularly the political situation in Bulgaria that threatens to undermine the work of the church there.

We ask your prayers for those who suffer – through the earthquake in Indonesia which in early August killed 90 people; through high temperatures across Europe and wild fires destroying homes and crops; through drought in SW Australia, through political instability and economic hardships in the Yemen, Venezuela, Mexico, Zimbabwe and Italy. Pray for the many refugees from Rakhine State, Myanmar and from Syria and northern Africa still languishing in overcrowded camps, where women and children are particularly vulnerable. Pray that all will know God’s blessing through the kindness shown to them by others.

Give thanks and celebrate with Dr Oknah Kim Lah, World President 1981-86, whose 100th birthday is on 27th September.
