A Letter From The President

By October 7, 2016No Comments

Dear Sisters,

I greet you in the name of our Lord, Jesus Christ, who calls each one of us to serve him and to put our trust in him. I am trying to do that myself as I begin to comprehend the enormous privilege of serving God through the role of World President of the World Federation of Methodist and Uniting Church Women. What an honour and what a huge responsibility! I am well aware that I shall need to spend much time in prayer in order to begin to fulfil such a calling. Please pray for me and for the other World Officers as we do our best to serve this amazing movement.

I have spent the last three weeks quietly, on a caravan holiday with my husband, Les. We had planned it some time ago and it was a real blessing to be able to reflect on the events of the World Assembly without the pressure of work. The assembly theme ‘Chosen people: called to proclaim’ will have provided us with the inspiration for our continued work. It reflects so clearly our stated purpose ‘To know Christ and to make him known.’ I know many are already sharing their experience of the assembly with others in their own locality. Let them inspire you by their proclamation of good news!

I valued being able to worship with so many women from diverse cultures and to hear again how God calls each of us for a particular task and then equips us to carry it out. In the workshops, we learned how we might proclaim (the gospel) through social action, worship and our relationships. I give thanks for our Helen Kim Memorial Scholars, our Tree of Life editor, our representatives at the United Nations, our Archivist, the Area Presidents and Vice-Presidents, and the amazing team of World Officers with whom I shall be working closely.

My first duty and joy has been to write some suggestions for prayer for the month of October. I know many found Ann’s monthly prayers so helpful and will do my best to continue this practice.
Later this month, we shall be celebrating the anniversary of the formation of our movement on 26th October, 1939. I commend the Study paper produced by Latin America Area on the topic of Primary Education. However you celebrate World Federation day this year, do share a report and photos with your Area President, so they can go on your Area page of the website.

Every blessing,

Alison Judd
