Created by the Spirit for a Purpose

By October 9, 2025No Comments

The Spirit of God has made me; the breath of the Almighty gives me life.   Job 33:4

When someone loses consciousness, the first-aid rule is to give the person mouth to mouth resuscitation. The Hebrew word for the Holy Spirit, ruach, literally means “breath” and without breath life is impossible.

We read of the Holy Spirit in the very first and the last verses of the Bible. The Holy Spirit was already present before creation. Genesis 1:2 reads, “The earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over waters.” Genesis 2:7 describe how God created people, “The Lord God formed man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being.” In Revelation 22 when Jesus talks about His return He says, “I am the bright morning star. The Spirit and the bride say, Come! Whoever is thirsty, let him come” (Rev 22:16-17)

Job testifies that the Spirit of God made him; that the breath of the Almighty gave him life. The Spirit of God created each person with a specific purpose in mind; He has a plan for the lives of each one of us. He planned your even before you were born.  Just like you cannot live without breathing, you need him so that you can grow spiritually, for him to recreate you so that you can become more like Jesus. In Job we see a reminder that there is a purpose in every struggle, a design meant to redirect hearts towards God’s truth and grace.

As Federation women around the globe here we are in His grace in the special month of October in 2025, the month in which our charter was signed on the 26th of October 1939. We celebrate this special day as we meet for our Study Day Program on this day or any other day convenient to us in our Areas and Units. This years Study Day Program was prepared by the Latin America Area with a theme: “Weaving Webs of Hope: Just and Healthy Communities”

We are grateful to the founder of this great sisterhood, their foresight in establishing this World Federation of Methodist and Uniting Church Women organisation years ago has created a powerful legacy of empowerment for women, and we are truly grateful.

We thank the Holy Spirit that is present in our lives and pray that it recreates us so that we can become spiritually stronger and be more like Jesus.   Amen
