I grew up in Surrey, UK, and married Les in 1974. We have two grown up children, Tim and Nicky. I am enthusiastic about women’s lay ministry; a local preacher, retreat leader and speaker. I was privileged to be Women’s Network President in 2005-6.
Many years ago, Acts 1: 8 became a prophetic verse for me. Since then, God has allowed me to witness God’s amazing grace and activity both in my own home and ‘to the ends of the earth’. Now in my new role as Area President, I anticipate many more opportunities to experience and share in the wonderful goodness of God. My vision is that the WFMUCW has the potential to raise the global awareness of the whole church. Using the Millennium Development Goals as our agenda, we can really make a difference.
My name is Maureen Young, Vice-President of Area Europe, Britain and Ireland and live in Londonderry which is in the northwest of Ireland. I was trained as a teacher and am married with four grownup children and four grandchildren. I am a Local Preacher in the Methodist Church and branch of Methodist Women in Ireland, (MWI), having served in various roles over the years including representative to the Unit Committee of WFMUCW.
My first experience of the Federation was at the World Assembly in 2001 at Loughborough in England. It was overwhelming but very informative and exciting. Gradually I began to get a better understanding of the organization, especially after attending the WTP at the Joint Area Seminar in Germany (2003). At the next seminar in Scotland (2009), I was the official treasurer, though greatly assisted by others. This role is a new challenge and privilege to undertake. At times I feel quite daunted and inadequate but the Holy Spirit shall be my helper. ‘I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me!’ Alleluia!
