A Call to Pray for North America and the Caribbean

‘Not to us, O Lord, not to us, but to your name give glory,

for the sake of your steadfast love and your faithfulness.’ (Psalm 115:1)

This month our prayers are especially for North America and the Caribbean, for their Area Officers, Sandra and Lois, for our United Nations representative Brenda and our Archivist Judith.

We give thanks:

for the sisterhood of the North America and the Caribbean Area that includes several denominational Units of the World Federation (UMW, AME, AMEZ, CME, MCCA).

for a successful MCCA Webinar Assembly in July and the new executive appointed to serve. It was the first time women who had challenges travelling were able to attend online.

for United Methodist Women taking seriously God’s call to care for one another and the natural environment, standing by the Native American people and effectively stopping the completion of the Dakota Access Pipeline.

for the Thursdays in Black campaign addressing all forms of gender-based abuse and violence,  on the increase during this time of ‘stay at home’ measures, and for hot-lines for victims  providing support in many locations.

We pray for:

the massive number of people losing their jobs due to COVID-19, especially in the Caribbean that relies heavily on tourism; those affected by the closure of national borders, unable to travel freely; children, parents and teachers anxious about a return to school; churches coping with precautionary measures to prevent the spread of infection; scientists searching for an effective vaccine.

those who have lost homes and loved ones as a result of the hurricane season that is affecting the Caribbean and southern states of the USA (June to November) with storms like Isaias and Laura; and those affected by the fires that have been raging in California.

the ‘Black Lives Matter’ campaign, that people of every nation will respect those of different ethnicity, value diversity and bring an end to racism and injustice.

wisdom, truth and fairness in the general elections in Jamaica District, and the presidential election in the USA, with each person exercising their right to vote.

healing for Noriko Lao, Area Treasurer and for Rev’d Serna Samuel, UMC Missionary.

Loving God, may we know your healing presence and show your kindness to one another.

May we speak out for justice and human rights for all people.

May we watch over one another in love.

In the name of Jesus Christ, Amen
