A LIFE OF LOVE AND LIGHT
“Behold, the virgin will be with a child and will give birth to a son, and they will call Him Immanuel” which means” God with us” (Matthew 1:23)
The Christmas story of the redeeming love of God that appeared to all people should elicit a response from us, it appeals to us at this Christmastime to do the same too. Like Jesus, live a life of unconditional love here on earth. If you see your way clear to do so, it will require that you treat all other people with the same love and mercy that Jesus shows you. (Ephesians 5:2) Paul says, “Live a life of love, just as Christ loved us and gave Himself up for us as a fragrant and sacrifice to God.” Decide right now to do your best to live like Jesus for the rest of your life, to care as He does and to love as He does.
With the first Christmas, the light of God shone brightly over the fields of Bethlehem when the choir of angels sang of the love and peace of God. From then on, the light would be stronger than darkness. In Jesus God was born, God grew to adulthood, lived, suffered and died like us and amongst us. God is a God with us. Because Jesus was born, you and I now always have God with us, and we are assured of His presence. In Ephesians 5:8 Paul encourages the Ephesians to be people of the light. This meant that they needed to obey the will of God in their lives and share His message of light to others.
In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus said that we are the light of the world. Let that light shine this Christmas in such a way that other people will see the good things that you do and will honour God for them. Let us further know Christ and make Him known as we bear fruit that will last. May the Lord Jesus make it possible for us to be people of light who will live in love and follow His footsteps for the rest of our lives.
