Tribute to Sarah Nkele Matlhale
31-10-1941 to 24-12-2021
I would like to pay tribute to a great woman and mentor that Southern and East Africa Area has lost. Former President and Vice President Sarah Matlhale passed on the 24th of December 2021.
Sarah served as Vice President in 1996-2001 alongside then Area President Cynthia Pozzo. She became Area President 2001-2006. A stalwart in the African Methodist Episcopal Church and the World Federation of Methodist and Uniting Church Women.
In the AME Church she covered all aspects of the church life as a member, leader and teacher. In the Women’s Missionary Society (WMS) she was a trusted steward and trustee respectively. She served in the Botswana Annual Conference as treasurer. She was the M. Joan Cousin Youth and Women Empowerment Center Vise Chairperson. The center was her passion where she invested her time and personal resources serving community and the church beyond measure. When the center was faced with financial challenges, she constantly paid their utilities and staff salaries from her personal finances for years. She donated generously to the church and community. At the time of her transitioning, she was an active life member of the 18th Episcopal District of the AME Church.
She will be greatly missed by her family, the AME church family and her World Federation of Methodist and Uniting Church Women sisters.
May Her Dear Soul Rest in Perfect Peace
